You might want to get a few books, and call some vets. I would also recommend rescuing one from a shelter, they always need good homes!

Ok...well first off go to a shelter look at the older cats, they may not be as playful as kittens but a kitten will only be so energetic for a few months before its the same as an older cat.

Kittens cost alot- well here they do 225.00 at the shelter (with everything shots, spay etc...) and more in the pet stores for a kitten with nothing.

You'll also need a litter box, food, bowls, toys, cat tree or scratching post. And if you don't get a shelter cat which usually come spayed with shots and everything vet care. Also cats need yearly check ups so work that into the cost too.

You can adopt older cats cheaper from a shelter, but you would still have to work in vet costs etc...

Any new pet exp. a dog or cats or any pet that requires alot is going to be a big expense and its not something to rush right into.

here from a shelter is 40-65 plus you can rescue from someone on craigslist, or check the newspapers some need to find homes and will give free to a good home, mind you you still have to get vet care toys, and the other living expences such as food and litter and litter boxes and such

We have rescued for a while now and after the cost of rescue and the first round of bowls and litter pans.....you can get toys, bowls litterpans etc at discount stores the animals don't mind trust me....We usually spend about 30.00 a month on food for them but they are spoiled but one should only cost about 10 to 15 a month and about 65.00 a year for vet (one time visit)I think cats are less expensive than dogs but please rescue from a shelter there are so many in need of good homes...and trust me the cute wears off a kitten after about the 3rd roll of tp they decide to shred.GOOD LUCK
