hello! My name is Amira, and it's my first time posting, but I have a pretty serious issue...
I have two chinchillas. One is a boy named Chimi, and a girl named Sienna...
Sienna went to the vet about a month ago because her toe got stuck in their cage. She had to get her middle toe amputated, and she is doing well! But the scary thing it's been about a month with me being paranoid, I was going to clean out the main cage that Chimi has been staying in, so I put him in the same smaller cage that I've been keeping Sienna in. Immediately Chimi started chasing her around the cage, and leaping on top of her as well as biting what looked to be the top of her head and neck. I separated them and she is a lot calmer, and so is he, but I'm worried. I've had them living in the same cage for almost two years now, and have NEVER had this kind of a problem!
Sienna has started losing some of her fur now, and has two small bald spots on the top of her head by her ears. I don't want to have to take her to the vet again, and I've never had a problem with chinchilla fur loss, so I'm really worried. Was it the stress of being attacked by Chimi that caused her to lose the fur, or was it the ferocity of the attack? And should I take her to the vet for it?
I'm really hoping for some insight on this matter, cause I want my two chinchies to be happy together, you know?
Any help and advice is appreciated!
