so i have a cut off soda bottle (i melted the cut part so its not sharp) with a damp paper towel in it for ickis to go into when shes sheding.. the thing is shes ALWAYS in it 0.o she just shed saturday of last week so i doubt she needs to again. is it normal for them to hangout in their humid hide?

What kind of lizard? a gecko? it is pretty normal for them to hide in humid and dry hides.

shes a leopard gecko =( i was under the impression they like low humidity at like 40% ish and thats what her tanks at but shes spending all her time in the humid one

How many other hides do you have in the tank? Could there be something else she likes about the humid hide other than the humidity, such as the temperature, darkness level, etc?

I wouldn't worry to much at this point. I have two leopard geckos right now and both of them will hang out in their humid hides once in awhile, even during times when they are not shedding. Both of mine have been doing this since I got them and they are both very healthy.

She has her soda bottle humid hide (whichs is a clear bottle) on the warm side of the tank, theres also her log hide on the warm side of the tank and on the cool side she has a coconut house =o she also likes to lounge in her mealworm dish after she eats lol but its good to know that others do that =/ I was worried she was trying to shed again early or something

Try making another soda bottle hide for the other side of the tank. I know some reptiles (I don't have leopard geckos but I keep snakes and used to have a crested gecko) are picky about hides. It might not be the humidity but the fact that she feels more secure in there. I had to get identical hides for my ball python otherwise she'd spend all her time on the side of the tank with her favorite cave.

there isnt really room for another soda bottle hide unless i bump her to the 30 gallon tank my sister gave me or i get rid of one of the other hides and move things around =/ ive got her in a 10 gallon for now where i read you only need 10gallons of tank space per gecko and i wasnt planning on getting a second one

A lot of people do say 10 gals is enough for a single leopard gecko - but like with most other animals bigger is better. I personally don't like to keep my adults in anything smaller than a 20 gal long for a single adult. It gives you more space for hides and decorations and all that and of course more space for the gecko to explore. If you have an empty 30 gallon sitting around and you're not planning on using it anytime soon I bet you could set that up really nice for her

Up to you, but yeah it might just be the hide she likes and if you give her another one it might convince her to leave the humid hide and use the other one instead.

Yeah i think the bigger tank is a better idea =/ shes still pretty younge now so the 10 gallon is nice and big but ive seen how big adults get and it just feels like the 10 gallon will be too small for her. And I do like to decorate tanks.. =/ i need to post a picture of ickis shes alot bigger then when i got her last month and her tails growing nicely

I agree, even though they are smaller reptiles compared to some other kinds kept as pets, I do think that with the sizes they get to as adults that 10 gals is small for them. Apparently lots of people keep them successfully in that size, but I like to give mine more space.

Plus I really like to set up/decorate the tanks too. It's more fun when you have more space to work with and you're not trying to figure out how to cram a lot of stuff into a small tank.
