I have a young male degu that I've had for a little over a month now. I'd like to get him a friend, but I'm not sure what gender to get. I've read that male degus often have issues with each other if they weren't brought up together. I would be interested in raising some degu pups, but not more than one litter because I'm kind of afraid I wouldn't be able to find homes for them, so I'm unsure about a female. What should I do?

I definitely wouldn't get a female since there's no way to have them together without constant litters. And you definitely don't want to breed degus of unknown backgrounds together.

Males can be harder to introduce but it's definitely possible :). Most degu fights are caused by small enclosures or rushed introductions. How large is the cage?

I would get a young male (a baby being ideal but that might not be possible), that'll make things go smoother :).
