I just got my first Prairie dog about 2 weeks ago. He is about 10 weeks old now and is doing pretty well. Just trying to find someone that I might stay in contact with just incase I have any questions.

I have had them in the past and just recently got a new one. I am relearning everything but will help as much as I can.

I know I am not the best option but I see that no one responded to you. I have a feeling I will be quite active on here.
Thank you. So far so good. He bites only when he plays and has started slowing down with that. The only problem i have is trying to find a place to get him neutered because the only place in town wants to do it for $280
I am guessing you live in Tampa or near (I am guessing FSU stands for the college or at least I think FSU is in Tampa lol)?

I am not sure how much this place in St. Pete charges but here is there info :
Animal Medical Hospital - 2540 30th Ave North 727-896-7127
They have experience with pdogs (or so I was told).

My new one likes to bite a lot too and am hoping to rid him/her of that soon. Also mine for some bizarre reason has yet to make any yips, yahoos etc. This is worrying me. All my others always made those noises. He/she is only 4 months old but I had a young one before and she made the noises.
Ya im actually up in Tallahassee so im a good 4 to 5 hrs away from tampa unfortunately. Ya i read a couple posts where some people's pd would not make noises. I find that interesting for the fact that the minute i walk into my room mine wont stop haha. Hes about 3 months old now so that is weird that yours wont make noises.

That vet place emailed me back and it isn't much cheaper anyways ($256.71).

I have had pdogs in the past and all of them made noise. This one still has yet to make any yips, yahoos or whatnot. It is making me quite sad. I miss those noises. I am wondering if something is wrong with it. I have googled and googled trying to find out about it but can't find even any mention of it. I cannot believe I have a mute pdog. :(
I got a rescue boy in a about a year ago who didn't make any noises either, and he was at least a year old. It took a few months of hearing my other prairie dogs, and me talking to him, for him to learn. I think it also has a lot to do with them feeling comfortable in their surroundings. Your guy will figure it out eventually. :)

Thanks. I have been worrying a lot about it. I have never known of any pet pdogs that didn't make those cute little noises. I will just try to be patient. I did see some videos on youtube that have the pdogs making the noises so I think I will keep playing them over and over again and maybe mine will finally talk!
Hi There.... My Prairie dog just turned 11 years old. we pretty well have gone through everything with our little girl...lol
If I can help with anything please let me know.
Hello! First day on this forum, and I have lots of questions! I recently got my baby named Edie.I've had her for two weeks and I love her! She will not eat any timothy hay. So I bought every brand of hay the Oxbow offers, bc I was worried after reading that they need to have free choice hay constantly. The only one she will touch is the Oat Hay. She picks through it and eats the seed-like parts off of it, but she loves it! Is this ok? I know you're not supposed to give them much alfalfa, but is Oat Hay ok? Also, she doesn't really bite me, but when we play she gets really excited and bites me when we're playing. Is that ok? It doesn't seem to be aggressive...more like what a kitten does when they play. She drinks maybe an once of water a day. Is that normal? Any tips on potty training? There is so little research and information available, that I feel like I'm lost. When should I start harness training? Any help is appreciated.
