Need ideas

My dad is awesome and has decided that my mom doesn't use her sewing room enough anymore, so he's moved everything out of it and is letting me set it up as a rat room! I want to let them have run of the whole room if I can figure out a good way to protect the carpet, so I need some ideas. I want to put something down that will satisfy a few requirements:
1. Protect the carpet from pee
2. Cover the whole room (it's a small bedroom)
3. I can secure it down at the edges so they don't just burrow under it
4. They are not likely to eat it

So if anyone has any ideas or input, please let me know!

Wow - what great parents you have! The only thing I can suggest to protect the carpet would be a heavy duty drop cloth. You can get them in Lowes and Home Depot. They can also be thrown in the wash.

My girls love crinkly tunnels so sometimes I bring the cat tunnels in for them to run around in.

I would suggest you cage them unless you are in there - they can do a lot of damage to baseboards and things just by having fun.

Would love to see pics when you get all set up.
Get some sheets that you put down when you decorate they are like £3 here so thats like $4 ? lol

My boyfriend lets me use his backroom as a rattieroom because noone uses it and they never pee on it when they poo i just lift it up.
I Also used some old mats like carpet mats on bits that i dont want ruined.
Ideas for toys?
Youve asked the right person HAHA!
Cardboard boxes, build them little towers out of them.
Bouncy balls, cerial boxes, old trousers, Cat toys ! LOL my lot has tried everything!!
YAY, a rat room sounds great!!
I'm not sure about which carpet, but I would recommend getting laminat (SP?) flooring because its easy to wipe and keep clean.
But it can be expensive and hard to fit.
Good luck!!

I think I have decided to go with a durable area rug cut to the size of the room. Like the type of carpeting that is in office buildings... I just need to call up a carpeting place and see how much it will cost.

I already got an old loveseat for free from a friend which they are enjoying playing on. I have a lot of ideas for toys, play forts, etc already but please keep the ideas coming! I always like fresh and new ideas for my boys.

Yes, they will definitely be in their cages when I'm not around. But it will be nice to be able to just open them up and let them run free for their playtimes! :)
scotch guard spray the whole room down and then you can clean easier and it resists stains and after a few hours its safe for pets to be on

then get an area rug or something if you really need it. i never had issues with my rats peeing on things

Good idea, I will do that.

HA! My boys pee EVERYWHERE, constantly. And the carpet in the room is white!
i forget what its called but its basicly plastic cardboard
my boys pee way too much! but my girls never do. You can use tarps as well mine love the sound of them. But the only down fall is tht they are easier to chew through. We also use like a vinyl flooring for them.
