I know I only lurk mostly these days. I've been exhausted, overworked, and kind of forum-ed out of late. I apologize. But I wanted to share some news and updates.
First of all, an update on my current Ghost Girls.
Aggie: Has been struggling with a neck abscess. There is a suspicion that it might be hiding some underlying cancer. We are continuing to treat her symptomatically. At 15 mos, my tilty headed flower is still all kinds of perky and spunky. As long as she is loving life, we'll let her wiggle on.
Darcy: Has been doing just fine. She's coming up on 2 years old and is just as sweet and arm drapingly loving as she always has been. She helps my boys with their homework every day after school.
Devon: She is 5 months shy of her 3rd birthday. The longest lived rat I've had so far. She still runs (walks) on her wheel, and has become quite the lazy love bug. She falls asleep often in our arms and is enjoying her old lady days.
And in new news?
We're adopting 3 new rats this month. Georgia Rat Rescue had some rescues that melted my heart this week and I have to bring them home. Lilspaz, I thought of you when I found out about my two new boys (yay, ghost BOYS back in da house!).
They're about 3 and 4 months old. One is a mink boy currently called Haskall D. Cuddles, the other is a PEW boy, currently called Data. Their names will change when I meet them and figure out what they aught to be called. They started life in a feeder bin. Some really excellent young men from Georgia University decided to buy them and let them loose in a girls' dorm as a prank. Retrieved from this nightmare, the young men got together with their friends and drew lots to determine who got to decide the rat boys' fate. Possibilities included stomping on them, experimenting on them, drowning them, feeding them to animals, setting them loose in the wild, making them fight to the death. Ugh.
Fortunately, one gorgeous student read them the riot act for being barbaric mouthbreathers and took the two rats from them. He didn't have a place to keep them, so he brought them to a friend off campus to stay. The off campus friend had no clue what to do, but did his best and made a big rat tunnel maze out of tupperware boxes for the boys to live in and fed them scraps from the cafeteria.
Eventually they found the Georgia Rat Rescue and gladly surrendered them to my friend PhoenixGate. This poor pair has been fostered, loved, and fed properly for the last month and are very sweet, shy, loving boys.
My other girl is an extremely petite young adult girl who is currently full of beans with hormonal attitude and cheeky sweetness. She's a black hood with a cute belly spot who goes by the name Princess Buttercup, because she's a /serious/ Princess. She came from a rescue oops litter. We've already decided to call her Clara the Impossible Girl for her moxy. She'll be spayed this week, and will come home with the boys in two weeks.
