Sounds like it could be RI's. I would find a reputable rat vet and get a second opinion.

No offense, but I would only take what Petsmart "vets" say with a grain of salt. I rather seek out a vet that is certified in treating small animals. Rats generally don't make noise like that, not that we can hear anyways (except the occasional squeak).

When I have to give my rats an antibiotic and they are a little fussy,I put the dose into a bit of fruit flavored baby food and they lap it up no problem. Try that.

Try something like bananas or blueberry or something like that. Mine really love the banana, strawberry and blueberry baby foods.

They also love vanilla yogurt.

Good luck.

I am sorry your rats are being so picky...it is possible they are being super cautious because they are not fully used to you yet?

You will just have to force it then. I never had any rats refuse baby food or yogurt, even with the meds in it. And I even had a couple of rats who would gladly lick the syringe.

Maybe with time they will get better or start to like the baby food? Hopefully anyways.

Usually baby food cost me under a dollar a jar, but if you want, you can always improvise at home too. Maybe you have some types of fruits or veggies (not citrus) that you could mash up or puree in your blender? Instant baby food.
Thats such a good idea! I got a mini blender for my birthday last year and I love making milkshakes/smoothies in it. I cannot believe I didn't think of doing this! I would just go buy baby food...man,thanks for the idea!! :D

This morning, I gave them each the medicine in ONE TRY, both times!! I know they got the medicine because they were moving their mouths, like they were eatting it. And I left a little on Juliet's fur, so she'll just clean that off and put it into her system.. THEN, the big surprise: after I put them back into the cage, they kept coming back to the door. I held my hands at the door and they just crawled onto my hands, crawled on my arms for a little bit then would go back into the cage. They just kept doing that. I'm so happy they're ok with me even after having to shove that syringe into their mouths....
Thats great news! And also sounds like they are coming around. I notice with all rats, some are quicker to warm up and get used to us then others. But when they come back to the cage door for more attention/food or whatever...thats a good sign! :)
