Pleco not eating

Hello, I bought a Pleco at my LFS a few weeks ago because I had a ton of algae growing in my tank. A few days after I bought him he ate all of the algae off of the tank. Ever since then he is swimming and hiding, but I don't know what he eats to keep himself full. So a few days ago I tried to put some cucumber into the tank and see if he would eat it, and he didn't. I tried again and everything was still there, so tonight I'm going to try broccoli. I don't know if he is starving or not. But if he was he would be eating the cucumber and broccoli right? He has plenty of hiding spaces and sometimes I can't even see him! So should I buy algae discs? I keep the light off 9-11 hours a day at night and on for about 13-14 hours during the day. I've also noticed that he sucks on the bamboo I put in my tank when I started my fishtank. And I also saw online that they like to chew on driftwood, so I might buy some. Please help I don't want him to die!

Driftwood is expensive, just to let you know. We live near a lake, where there's tons of driftwood, but people tag a huge price tag!

He probably is eating, but you're not aware of it.

For our Pleco we bought: Hikari Tropical Sinking Wafers

We got them at Pet Supplies Plus, I think, but apparently you can get them at Petco, too.

Also, another thing you need to know about Plecos is that they can get HUGE. Some can grow up to 5 ft long.

I mean, chances are yours won't, ours definitely didn't, but just to warn you. They're awesome fish...we had a tank split, and gush 90 gallons of water all over the living room floor. Plecos are apparently strong enough swimmers that he fought against the current until the water drained all the way out. Not many fish could say they survived something like that. I heard another story of this guy's wife who walked into the living room and found her Pleco outside of the aquarium, with scratch marks and bitten fins(they had cats). She picked it up, thinking it was dead, and it started thrashing around. Unsure what else to do, she put it back in the tank and it lived for years longer. So...yeah, they're awesome fish. We got very attached to our Pleco.

Ok, thanks I'll make sure to pick up some wafers tomorrow and put them in the tank. Yah, I wonder how big my Pleco is going to grow.
YAY! I bought some of the sinking pellet, and within a few minutes he was all over it!
Hey, one of my Zebra Danios is slowly swimming and he's swimming in the same spot. And this morning one of my other Zebra Danios was dead. He won't eat and he is opening and closing his mouth a lot. Do you know whats wrong with him?
Great! I'm glad, :) Our Pleco liked them, too.

I have no idea about your Zebra Danios, I'm sorry. The only reason I could answer your question about your Pleco was because we used to have one. But I know nothing about any other fish, :/
The cucumber needs to be blanched for the pleco to eat it, removing the skin would also help :).

Get your water tested asap, sounds like a water quality issue. How long has your aquarium been set up?

Gasping is usually a sign of low oxygen or an ammonia/nitrite spike.
Ok, I'll test the water today, and I turned on my bubble wand.
