Poor Scooby (our yellow lab/chow mix) had to be taken into the emergency vet late yesterday afternoon...... Yesterday we went grocery shopping, when we came home we let the dogs outside like normal.... well after we let them in, hubby decided to run to target and pick up the movie "chicago" while he was gone, scooby began to vomit, and shake his head rapidly.... I wasn't too concerened with the vomitting as it wasn't a whole lot to really worry about, however I looked into both his ears and nothing was there, although he continued to shake his head, when hubby got home I had him check Scooby's ears, and he found nothing. So we both agreed he may have gotten a piece of hair or something down in one of his ears and would just keep an eye on him. Well we put in Chicago (great movie btw) and about an hour into the movie, scooby gets up from his little nap and walks over to the hubby, and all of sudden I hear this "OMG" I look over and the left side of scooby's face was huge, it looked like somebody stuffed a tennis ball or 2 in his cheek... So we called our vet they were closed (of course it was saturday), then we called the emergency vet, and decided to take him in. On the way there the right side of his face began to swell, as well has the bridge of his nose, poor guy's nose looked like a ski slope.... After the Vet saw him it was agreed that he had an allergic reaction of some sort, but what?? Hubby and I noticed a small red spot next to his eye while we were at the vet's.... thinking maybe a spider bite or bee sting..... They gave him a Benadryl injection, as well as a steroid injection, and he is currently on 50mg of Benadryl until the swelling is completely gone..... At least he is doing better, we can actually see his face now, and I'm hoping whatever caused it doesn't reaccur...... While we were at the Vet's there were 8 other dog's there with allergic reactions to bug bites..... The bugs are bad here this year...... I'm going today and pulling up all our flowers from both flower beds :bawl: it has to be done before we move anyhow... But I am hoping by doing this it will help eliminate some of the massive amount of bees/wasps, and spiders we've been having around the yard..... Okay I'm done babbling now :)

I`ve had a pooch to get bee stung and his lip, side of face had swollen. Here in my area I`m more concerned of snake bites. Already I have killed 3 copperheads so I moved every rock in my fence so they wouldn`t have a place to hide. As for flowers, well the dogs tore most of them up so what I had left that I wanted to salvage I moved out of the fence. Sorry to hear of your ordeal but bugs, bees, flies, and spiders are a nasty thing sometimes... Hope your baby recovers quickly!

Poor Scooby! I hope the swelling goes down and he feels better soon! The bugs have been pretty terrible around here too (they just found West Nile virus here) and I am so worried about something getting the dogs :(

Becki I don't blame ya for being worried about west niles, we've had it here for the past 2 years pretty bad... last year was worse than this year so far.... Scooby's swelling has gone completely down, so he won't be getting any more benadryl, now we just have to see if the swelling stays gone.. Thanks for caring :)

I'm so glad he is doing better!!
I agree with everyone else- ick - the bugs this year have been horrid! I can't believe all the bees and wasps and they are trying to nest everywhere.
