I posted this under the general rodent section, but I changed my mind and decided to post it here as well.

I just wanted to share with all of you the great (I think) idea I came up with in regards to a play area for my rats! This can be used for any small animal that needs a safe and secure play area.
I bought 8 cardboard tri-fold presentation boards and attached them together with 3" extra strength Velcro strips about 40% the way up from the bottom. This allows me to take it apart and store it with ease. My rats have about a 10X12 area to play in and I can keep adding more and more to the boards as I want- which I plan on doing. I can also shape it into pretty much whatever I need. Of course since it is cardboard you don't want to leave your babies alone, but I find my babies are happy with the large space and diversions I supply them and don't really try to get out. They also love "peekaboo" as I run around the outside perimeter and pop up in different places.
Just an idea I wanted to share. Hope it helps someone!!

Thank you for sharing this! I'm a big fan of both velcro strips and bulldog clips in DIY ratty play, and this is a fun idea.

Yes, a great idea! I have seen others make playpens with cardboard and big clips, and velcro sounds like a very easy way to get the boards set up for a playpen, great!!
