Scabbing on Yuki's side?

3690 Views 20 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Elliriyanna
Today I got out yuki just to check his neuter and how the scar is looking etc. ( havent had him out much dont want him to pop a stitch) I picked him up and noticed he has scabbing all the way down one side. I couldnt get pictures its under his fur I havent seen him scratching at all he doesnt seem uncomfortable and it runs just one long scab from his shoulder to his tail almost. No fur is missing at all in fact I cant even really see the scab his fur is so thick. I just treated the boys for mites with Revo not too long ago. Any idea what could be causing this?

I also contacted the rodent rescue I got him from to come look at him. I would take him to the vet but my kitten has me about tapped out I have to take her to the vet next week since she has a lump in her stomach :(

Could it be a reaction to the glue or meds from the neuter?
That was a week ago and wouldnt it be around the area? This is on his side. The good thing is he is acting completely normal.
Sounds like he scratched himself on something. Its healing and all surface right?
What could he have scratched himself on? Its half an inch wide and he is in the CN I dont see anything that could have hurt him ...

And I guess its healing since its scabbed and yeah its all surface.

I wouldn't worry, unless it happens again...its not bothering him I imagine and they heal scary fast, especially surface wounds/abrasions.
He seems fine but I just wanted to make sure it wasnt anything
It doesnt appear to be healing.
It could be the Revolution, I've seen a few animals react that way to it and other topicals. I wouldn't freak out yet but maybe get it checked out if it doesn't heal. If it is from the topical then it might not heal completely until the chemical is fully absorbed (or whatever that one does, sorry, forgot...I always had Advantage).
I doubt it I have used revolution on him before with no problems.

Revolution is just like advantage it just treats more. Its what my vet recommends.

Take a pic? Is it dry or still moist? Is it spreading or just staying the same? Does he seem to be scratching at it?
its under his fur so I cant get a pic. Its staying the same and i have not seen him scratch but there is slight blood specks in his fur.
I've never heard of using Revolution and the like one rodents.

Revolution is the anti-parasitic of choice for rabbits, guineapigs, mice, rats, etc.

Oh ick, now its starting to look like Pyoderma.

This is surface pyo with a lovely old girl...she'd been like this for months. Feel the scab/wound/lesion and see if it feels hot? If so it likely is an infection, either staph or strep in the skin.

Does the pink look angry and hot? Does it seem itchy or painful? Does he keep scratching it open?

This is deep pyo...most rats don't get this but I thought I would link Selene's case history anyways

It doesnt feel hot feels like a normal scab ... Its not red or anything its actually like a purpley black. And his skin is a normal color all around it ... He does itch it some and he doesnt seem to like me touching it did you hear the soft squeaks in the video?

Whats the treatment for Pyoderma?

go look for it on www.ratguide.com

But if the scab is not hot, there's no infection, so its unlikely to be pyo.
If not that whats causing this?

I don't know.

If the scab is dry, not hot, no bad smell and NOT spreading, just leave it alone and see if it heals on its own.
