We have had a our male Guinea pig about 3-4 weeks so far and we always intended to buy a pair but he didn’t have one at time of purchase so we have been searching. We finally found one that we really loved, also a male obviously. They are both young, under 6 months, our first we aren’t 100% on age and the new one is a couple months cause he is small. We have two cages to start but as soon as we got the cages both cleaned and set up we have noticed a bad odor. It almost smells like vomit or sour. The cages are clean all fresh etc, and the cages are near one another (to help get use to one another) and in a somewhat small room, so when we open that door we are hit with a foul smell.
I am wondering if this is a scent mark smell and will fade after a few days of familiarity with one another. We can’t have this smell in our place long term, so if this is not normal ot won’t stop soon the new pig sadly wouldn’t work here (our local farmer we bought from will rehome worst case).
I’ve put some baking soda in the room to help but nothing working. This is their first night together (again in separate cages), but we need help!!!

What bedding are you using for your guinea pigs' cages? Probably the worst case is that your guinea pigs are all sick and they need to get some medical treatment from a veterinarian.
