My Staffy is in labour for the first time.
A straw coloured sack is hanging from her at the moment before any pups.
Is this normal?

This is a time you should call a vet, not ask on a forum. We can't help with medical problems and with out seeing it it is hard to say even for those that have helped or seen dogs give birth enough times to say what is normal.

Hope took advice to call a vet immediately, especially it is your dog's first time giving birth and it is your first time owner of dog giving birth? Hope everything's ok for the dog and the pups.
