I like both! It really depends on the breed and gender tho... I find male "teddy bear" syrians and male RWW (Russian Winter White) Dwarves to be the calmest tho. Roborsky (spell?) dwarfs are very tiny and cute, but are funner to watch than hold. :D
well gotta say dwarfs kuz i rase them :D but I did just get a syrian rescue and shes amazing sooooo i say BOTH too! [but dwarf first haha]
RWWs: because of their social habits. My 2 males are just a delightful pair.
i voted Syrian, teddy bear cuz its the only type ive ever had :) i had 2 when i was younger and one was great, loved to be held and pet.. and one was an ebil little thing, but she was cute and fun to watch regardless :)
I like both but i have a particular fondness for Chinese hamsters and Roboroski's so in this case i picked dwarfs ;)
I pick syrians!

I never had a dawrf, but have heard mixed info on them.
I currently have a male "teddy bear" syrian named J.J.He is really friendly and super cute!!
Both are really adorable but I have found the Syrians are clamer and easier to handle so I know when I look at getting little one I want a Syrain...but eventually I want to look at getting a Dwarf too~!
I like syrians the best:) I find them to have a much better temperment than dwarf hamsters. I had two dwarves in the past and all they did was bite!
Dwarfs!!!! Dwarfs!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :)
I love both but the majority of my hamsters have been Syrians. They tend to be calmer and more affectionate...a lot of dwarves just want to run around on their own.

But of course it depends on the individual hamster :D.
I think dwarfes are better. They are so tiny and cute. I have had four dwarfs in the past and they all have been the freindlyiest little things. When I would go to the pet store, all the bigger hamsters (syrians, teddy bear, etc.) were all sleeping and lazy, but most of the dwarf babies were awake and happy ( it was later in the day too on several occasions)!!! LOL :)
RWWs: because of their social habits. My 2 males are just a delightful pair.
I have a female RWW. (If that means russian winter whte.) She is just the cutest. but she bites. any advise on how to stop her from biting?:)
baby-girl,

I used to have a female RWW too, and she used to bite. One thing I found out was to wash my hands all the time before getting her out. If you have any other pets that might have their scent on you, she could smell it and think that there is another animal trying ot invade her territory.

Another thing I tried (and it worked) was to get a pair of gloves, put them in you dresser drawer or something where your scent is abundent, and leave them there overnight. Then the next day, take them out and put them on, when you go into her cage have a treat that is irrisistable (pumkin seeds, sunflower seeds, or nutri-puffs) and put it in the center of your hand. If she does still bite you, don't move a mustle or make a sound. If you stay where you are, she will know that you aren't going to back down and you're "top dog". This worked with my little girl (Rest in peace Baby), but every one is different. You will probably have to work with her for a little while. Good luck!

Oh and I know I have already put my opinion in but Dwarfs are the BEST!!!! :)

thank you for the advise petluvr01.

And i always thought that female hamsters were calmer. (I was told by a friend...)
Well, Idk. I have had one female and two males (currently have a male) and they are about the same. It just depends on the kritter. My little boy that I have now is very independent and doesn't care about getting out much, where my other two (female and male) always wanted to get out. How old is your female? And where did you get her from-petstore?

My male hammie is quite calm.He is calm,if he is not running in his wheel or ball.He is really friendly as well.My sister also has a male hammie and he has a very similar personality to my J.J.
both are lovely, and even though I like syrian betta, dwarf hamsters are more likely to groom their owners, how sweet!!
:Dsyrians, my dwarves are rather mean...i can't break them of thier biting habit, but i still love them

she was 8 weeks on the 29th. I got her from a petshop in Beeston. (you wouldnt know because you probably dont live in Nottingham, England...) But its a very good petshop. ive had her since she was 6 weeks.

She has improved alot. she hardly bites now because i think she trusts me now. I think she likes being taken out because every time i come in the room, she up on her hind legs. :)
