Something is seriously wrong with Scrappy :( she's really quiet, which is very unusual, and she's swaying and stumbling like she's having balance problems. She just got her shots and spayed 2 1/2 weeks ago. Her incision site is fine, temp is fine, mouth is wet, but a little drooly, gums are pink, eye's look fine and respond to light, and I can't get her to eat or drink. She tried to take a biscut but it fell out of her mouth.
If anyone's got any ideas, please let me know, next step is the emergency vet, but I hate to go there, they are so imcompetent that if I had the money I would have sued them the last and only time I went there. We're going soon though if she doesn't get better.

Becki.
Oh no poor Scrappy!!! :( The couple things that come to mind to me are... well, I had a thread awhile back about my cat Smokie limping... it was 2 weeks POST-vac. This is sounding weird to me, like I wonder if it has anything to do with a vaccine reaction. Can she walk? Is she limping on one specific limb? One side of her body? Smokie couldn't walk on his right side, wobbling all over the place, and couldn't put pressure on the right front paw. They still don't know a defined cause of this, but I am not having him vaccinated in the future. Also, I took Gabby ( my brothers cat) to be checked out by a different vet nearby that was open late, I told her about Smokie's situation and she threw me another suggestion... that he could've "thrown a clot" meaning a blood clot traveled through his limbs maybe cutting off circulation. In his case since he mysteriously got better, and we don't know what happened, I guess that is possible the clot passed. I don't know.

Or, has she shown any signs of a siezure? You mentioned drooling!? My other cat, Snuggles, has them, and is wobbly and acts strange after it's over. When did this start happening?? We thought Jasmine had 1 seizure a long time ago, and she acted very strange for a few hours afterward, and was drooling PROFUSLY and wouldn't eat, then a few hours later, she was fine. We witnessed her having what the vet called "a tail chasing seizure", we think. I know exactly what you mean about the emergency vets!! :( I wish I could say wait till morning... do what you think is best. As I type this, it sounds more and more to me like how Jasmine was behaving after that. It's very scary, I know. Please keep us posted, I'm so worried for you, I know how scared you must be! Sending my thoughts and prayers for Scrappy! :hugg2:

I just remembered also, when that happened to Jasmine, I remember she was "swaying" and wasn't walking right, staring at us as if she was in a trance. That only happened that one time, though. She had a battery of tests done and CBC's for other issues and nothing abnormal came up there. I really wonder if that is what it could be? Poor Scrappy! :( I hope everything is ok, Becki! :hugg2:

Thanks you guys  We're back from the vet.
Jackie, it sounds alot like what you were describing about Jasmine! Scrappy was alert but seemed disoriented, kind of lights are on but no one's home. She could walk fine but standing still she would sway to the point of stumbling. The ONLY thing different I could tell was that her nose was wet and the little bit of drooling (I had just tried to give her a dog biscut, so that could explain the drool). It was very wierd, all I could think was that she got poisoned somehow. I've seen plenty of siezures, but only violent ones, so that didn't occur to me. The vet did a blood panel, everything came back perfect and by the time we got home she seems almost back to 100%, just tired  I thought she was dying on the way to the vet's (45minute trip) but despite the outrageous emergency fee and not getting any answers, I'm very happy to say that I think she'll be ok. Whatever it was seems to have passed :xfingers: She's crashed out in the middle of the bed (under the covers, with her head on a pillow of course  ) with Ira
Thanks again for your responses guys, I was frantic!

Awwwww Becki, I have been so worried! I'm so glad Scrappy is ok! That is weird, it sounded like what happened to Jasmine. What she had was very different from when my cat has a siezure, Jasmine had this strange episode, and since I have seen Snuggles have seizures, that didn't occur to me at first, only until I took her to the vet, she told me that's probably what it was. We thought possibly Jasmine got into something too, but had no clue what?? She like basically chased her tail around in her cage while we happened to be sitting there. And then that odd behavior started. Swaying, drooling, trance.. then, the episode just passed. Do you have any ideas of what Scrappy could've gotten into? Hmmm anything outside, weird plant? That's so strange. I'm sooo glad to hear Scrappy is ok, Becki! Give her chin rubs for me! :hugg2:

Hi Becki! I hope all stayed well. We had a scare when I first got my puppy. All the same signs but she wouldnt drink water either. We didnt want to go to the emergency because we'd practically already paid for their new Wing but we had no choice. Good thing too cuz she had an inception (when part of the intestines folds in on itself) which was like a severe blockage that was life threatening. Luckily we went and they opened her up and it was fixed. That was something that just happened and could just happen so I guess the lesson I learned from that was, even if your dog has a great history and hasnt had any accidents or poision, something can still go wrong, so keep a watchful eye! Hope things are still good, I would love an update!
Take care,
Melissa

Hi Melissa, Things are still going well, no signs of any problems since then. I still don't know for sure what happened but it seems to be done with. I didn't mean to downplay going to the vet, that's just about always the best option for a sick pet! I just meant our inept emergency vet in particular.

Hi Becki!

Oh believe me, I know where you're coming from!
Tufts university is near where I live and they will take you for everything you've got. Their famous line is "exploratory surgery"
that's when they dont know what's wrong (which seems too often for a place of their speciality, what with all their radiographs and everything) and then have students watch and learn on your pet. Not to mention they demand 1/2 the estimate which is usually way more than what it actually will cost before you leave, tears, empty carrier and all.

Believe me, I always said if I ever hit the jackpot, i'm going to sit in that emergency room and the next people that walk in and are faced with that I'm going to foot their bill right there.

It can be incredible on top of the pain and suffering you're worrying though already!

Glad things turned out good- best wishes to both of you!
