What bedding is best?

What bedding is best? I need to switch bedding because I'm allergic to it. I was using a few layers of news paper then aspen shavings over that. What do you use??

u could use yesturdays news it might be better

i had problems with aspen as well when i had rodents, or there is a type of bedding that petsmart sells i used for when i had a bunny its shredded paper, id advise stay away from pine and cedar thou.

I need something that wont get everywere. We are trying to sell our house and guinea bedding everywere isnt something I want.

I use Sunseed Fresh World Bedding (which is made from recycled newspapers and magazines), that I buy at Petsmart, because I have allergies to aspen bedding . Petco sells the same thing but in the Petco brand. I think both stores do price matchings so you can shop around to get the best buy if you want to. I don't use Care Fresh because it stinks like garlic. The Sunseed Fresh World Bedding has no scent to it.

We use a Carefresh knock off (PetCo brand) or Carefresh when it's on sale. I hated Carefresh for the rabbits but it works well for the cavies

. A lot of people use fleece bedding and just wash it.

I only use aspen shavings for burrowing rodents in tanks or cages with very deep bases. It's so messy!

We use three layers:
1. Clean white paper (I don't trust the chemicals from the newspaper inks)
2. Shavings (aspen or pine)
3. Hay.

We tried different combinations before, but our cavies seem to enjoy this combo the most. Especially the hay part

just thought id let you know pine is very dangerous and can cause respiratory issues in small animals

I agree. But if you open and disperse pine shavings in some open container and let it "ventilate" for several days, volatile oils (which cause respiratory issues) should disipate. There should be no smell left before applying.

How about the sort off jay cloth stuff you get in bags (shredded) in the pet shops? The coloured stuff.

Towels!

We use bathroom towels.
I have made their habitat slightly smaller than a large bathroom towel. Top level is the 'dining room' and a towel folded in half works there.

GP and bird live on landing. Have My shopvac underneath.

Each evening we vaccum tidy things a bit. Every other day we take towels out. They get shaken out in compost bin. The plastic sheeting is wiped down and a new towel is added. I have 6 inch plumbing tubes that I cut a third off and put in corners with a rock on to hold towel in place. When we get 4 or 5 towels they go through their own wash. If towels are real bad from shedding I will give them extra shake. We have not paid for disposable bedding in 3 years and cleanup has not been an issue.

By way bird has lived in pigs space for last 3 years and his cage door is open 24/7. he even preens the pigs.
