what to look for in a life jacket

So hopefully the river will be slowing down. If not, I'd like to go fishing with grandpa and bring the dogs along. I have been looking at jackets but there are so many. Are there things to look for like in human jackets? So far I have just been looking at bright colors and reflectors just in case someone gets lost.

Just look for a good one that fits perfectly to your body, so it won't loose easily and fit just right so you can breath freely, the same if you are looking one for your dog.
