Hi thre all.. am new to this site and was looking around for some assistance on taking care of a extremely young pup which we found a week back abandon at a park. We decided to take it in and care for it as there was alot of thicks on IT.

The following day we took it to SPCA which is not too far from where we stay. But the person incharge told US that she is too young to be here as there are all sorts of dogs coming in (and its dangerous for her well being) and if we could keep her for a few more weeks, and when she gets vaccinated then we could send her back if we changed our mind of not keeping her. We have named her Oreo as we were told its better to address her as early as possible.

Initially, we fed her with milk which are for young pups and after a week, she started to feed on young pup food (which we soaked in milk) She still maintains her feed of abt 3-4 times a day. When she came over, i left her in a box and then the next day, i went to get a bigger box for her but she some how grew out of it and does not wanna sleep in it! So the next alternative was to put in the the toilet. Which is only used by her to sleep. She cannot be kept alone for too long as she gets cranky and starts to BARK, her barks can go SUPERSONIC and it irritates my better half. We did try to leave her unattended for like 10mins the most as i think her bark may be heard frm the outside by others.

Some one did tell to get a Crate. But i am trying to figure out, if she cannot stick herself in a box, how can she stay in a crate?

Currently, she has poop around the house.. We have to monitor her movements as she some times go on SILENT and next thing we know she has done some bizzness some where... We have to also removed almost all the carpets in the house as she likes them and she chooses that over newspapers!! Argh...

Question : Does she need to be taken to the toilet to do her bizzness on the newspapers after she is done with her food? I cannot take her outside as my compound does not have any grass and its not safe to take her outside till she gets vaccinated.

I do hope to get some assistance frm anyone who could give me some feed back.. Much appreciated ... Do not worry abt climate as i am frm Malaysia and its pretty humid in its own ways ..

Thx to who ever that replies to this post... Rgds...

Hello and welcome to Paw Talk. THANK YOU for rescuing this little baby!

Do you know how old she is now? Crate training is a good idea. Housebreaking is a long process usually.

I am not an expert on dogs or puppies, but let me see if I can find you some links on how to care for Oreo.

When will you be taking her to the vet?

Hey ... thanks so much for replying... Really appreciate it.. If u suggest a crate, how big? Cos as i said earlier, she cannot stay in the toilet what more in the crate? She is so so notti with my other half but with me she is slightly better...Planning to see the Vet next week, did tk her earlier but the Vet said keep her another week or two then she should be ready for her 1st shot...

Hey Nibbler... i wish so much i could take her out but is it ok to take her out at this young age and without being vaccinated yet? If so, then i would.. make her adjust herself to the outside world then in the house.. but the prob is my place does not really have a garden.. more of a concrete garden :( Ideas? As u said the washroom is a good idea but a very patient one, and we are seeing it :)

I would think if you found her in the park, she will be fine outside until she gets vaccinated next week. If she was going to pick something up she would have already by living outside.
Anyways, congrats on the little Oreo! She's real cute :D
Hey Purple.. I am not sure how long was she being left on her own at the park and as you said. If she was to get something, it did show by now..

Can a young pup be left alone (for a few hours) at the toilet as i don't use a crate.. Thx

Hey Purple... Yeap... She does not like the bathroom much when she is awake but she does not mind sleeping in it... and she does her bizzness on the newspapers...

Nyway, for the rest of you who have contributed to this .. Just wanted to let you know at this moment Oreo is over at a friends place.. she is being left thre as i will be away for 10 days.. She is staying in a play pen now and seems to be loving it... When i get back frm my work trip, i will go get one for her.. She is behaving well and does not bark as much while she was in the bathroom. N she is eating alot now, for a one month old pup (according to the vet, she weights 1.75 kilos!!) Over at my friends place, thre are other dogs and she is adapting well to the others around her.. So am glad to see that when i am away she is goin to be with good hands.. :)

Thanks every one .. and will keep U guys on Oreo's well being... will post a photo of her soon...

Hi My3Dogs.... Thx for asking.. Sorry been away and did not really come on line much for the whole month or so... Nyway, Oreo is back with US now.. I just brought her back after she was with a friend for almost 2 weeks as i went away for work.. I see that u have Tucker (uer latest addition) Spare some tips for me?

Right now, things are good but not so good i should say.. I have a question (and this applies to who ever that reads this as well) Is it good to have my pregnant wife attend to Oreo (who is not like 6 weeks old) ? Oreo was behaving well when i first brought her back frm my friends place, but after 3 days. Her behavior changed, she became more aggressive and barks too much... N her barking has not changed since i found her. Loud but no more high pitched! I dun know if she is trying to bully my wife.. But both myself and my wife haf a different ways of attending to DOGS (irregardless of its age) She treats Oreo like a baby (and i have told her before its not right). Oreo is peeing on the papers and also pooping on it but sometimes i dun know if she does it on purpose and miss the paper totally ... That is when my wife gets annoyed that Oreo does not do her part when its right in front of her..
And Oreo, for some reason jus wants a human companion with her at all times, and my wife sacrifices her time to be in the area where Oreo is (just to allow Oreo to see her so that she does not bark) Oreo can control her barking at nite but in the morning and afternoon, she can't and we cannot figure out what seems to be wrong.. If we are out of the house, she is ok. But when we are home. She jus can sit in the pen despite letting her out to play for like 20mins or so before putting her back inside (Advices plse)

Feeding time, now Oreo is fed twice a day 9am and 9pm. She is on puppy solid food. Which she is enjoying at this moment. But after she eats, she barks again! That gets my wife annoyed as well. My wife dislikes the idea of putting newspapers in the hall for Oreo (as n when she comes out, she haf a place to do her bizz instead of heading back to the pen) Instead, she prefers Oreo to attempt to run to the toilet whre we also place some papers thre for her to do her bizzness. (Are we doin something wrong?) N as for the pen, Oreo seems to be a very ambitious PUP, last week she did managed to climb out of the PEN! Dun ask me how she did it, but she did it!

My wife and i are flight attendants and i have to ask, IS IT WISE FOR US TO KEEP OREO? My plan is to keep her Oreo on the outside and train her the best i can, and if we are away, i can rely on a friend to come by and check on her.. Just need uer kind advices.. Thanks so much for reading and contributing..

Rgds.....

Sigh... M goin to miss little Oreo.. Its a losing battle.. i wish i did find her much earlier... some how the feeling in me tells me that Oreo'll be a good one for me and the family.. but as u said, my other half isn't keen.. But am not sure she is not keen cos its a mongrel and we found it or since we did not have to fork out any $$ for it, Oreo can go.. I wonder if we did spent $$ for it, would she have changed her mind.. I dare not ask her tht..
