wow, i have to say that that is the PRETTIEST goldfish i have ever seen...im seriously thinking of getting one, especially when i saw yours

you know, a twenty would be even better and would cost 30bucks...if i ever get one i would use at least a 20 with a well working filter, when i fist had goldfish, i had only two years back and i had them in a ten, i changed the tank very often and the fish were fine, till one day they were gulping for air, i did not have a filter at the time, but now i wonder what was the cause of their gulping and eventual death? my theory is that there was not enough oxygen in the tank, perhaps a filter would of been the way to go since it could mix fresh o2 into the tank, however im still not sure what the real cause of death was? ammonia levels were low...any guesses?

i like him in the bowl but ill tell you what ill do i'll invent a water airiater and filter that is waterproof and can be inserted in the bowl wireless. i have been thinking about designing one for a while know
ps he doesn't like friends he is the one that killed all the others
he rammed them and picked at them till they all died

Yes it probably was not enough air and probably high ammonia levels, not low, too much ammonia will kill a goldfish, there are some tropicals that can tolerate mild ammonia like Black skirt tetras as they are very hardy. So it was among many different factors that killed them. Read my post about filtration on the top, you need a good filter and I recommend Aqua clear as it had separate parts, sponge, carbon and optional ammonia remover.

The sponge only needs a cleaning every water change(in the water taken out so it will not kill the good bacteria) and it stays in the tank for months as it just needs rinsing. Which it will aid as a home to beneficial bacteria, and you get a new carbon/ammonia pouch once a month but not the same day, carbon first then the ammonia which will keep the good bacteria alive on one and build up on the new. The other kinds of filters with the slips with carbon built into a sponge are good but are thrown out, thus killing beneficial bacteria that was alive and cultivating on the pad.

It sounds weird but true, there is good bacteria that help the fish and a good filter will give good oxygen through the water, keep beneficial bacteria and keep levels of ammonia and clarity to the tank, thus healthy fish.

I don't think I ever saw an "ugly" creature
Whether it was a fish or otherwise.

About the goldfish in the bowl...yeah,maybe he killed the other fish to make room.I have no idea how 13 fish could fit in something that size.I'm not getting goldfish until I can get a 55gallon aquarium. Then I'm buying smaller goldies until they grow big & by that time I will have enough for a $120 + size.

I [hate to admit this] used to have bettas in those "betta kits" thats sold. They lived a few months in that. And one night I looked at the fish & thought "what poor pitiful little buggers..." It literally broke my heart. After I posted, asking about tank mates.Still have my bettas, never been happier. Finally getting the aquarium keeping down path, researching like crazy.10 gallon is the smallest I'd ever keep anything in.My 5.5gallon is going to be used for a spider.
Trust me,there's a huge difference. If your like me,you'd feel guilt stricken after for ever having fish in a bowl.
:)
Just speaking from experience.

Easier to just buy an aquarium

Yep thats why. He had to make room.
It would be easier to just buy an aquarium like she said..and then maybe he would welcome some friends since he will be happier with all the room. He wouldnt have to kill for space to survive.
Im sure you could make the 10 gallon (or more) beautiful for him and a friend.

Well he is happy and very healthy and love me he gets "excited" when i am around. I clean his bowl every couple of days and when i had more in there they were tiny tiny babies. I figure why change a good thing, if he wasnt happy or healty i would move him. otherwise i am content to let him be happy!

I was just wondering...how exactly can you tell if he's happy?

At least test the water to make sure there isn't ammonia because that will slowly poison him :(. All you have to do is bring a sample of your water to the petstore...most stores test it for free.

I was wondering the same thing.

Membri123 - would you like to live in your toilet, with it only being flushed every few days? Probably not, right? Well, that is what you are doing to that poor fish. He needs a tank with at least a filter. 10 gallon tanks are not expensive and like Luvnature said you could probably find one at a yardsale. Goodwill, Salvation Army or other thrift stores are a good place to look too.

I wish you would take people's advice, we only want whats best for your fish.

I don't know why it's so hard for her to just buy an aquarium.10 gallons& 20 gallons are cheap, heck I even buy from eBay,& I assure you,if I can scrape up enough money, most people can.

I mean,it's not completely her fault, she now knows fish bowls aren't fit to house the fish in.I thought she would be more like ...grateful people informed her.

I asked enough questions on here for sure ...lots of others knew the answer to,I more than appreciate people's friendly advice for pointing out my mistakes.
I only want what's BEST for my pets.

P.S. Membri, I hope your not considering that living creature decor!
People who think of fish as "decorations" make my blood boil!!
Same like people who buy birds & keep them in teeny tiny cages.

Ok,I'm done :D

It is not a big change, and in the long run he will be happier, I know b/c I had my goldies in small tanks for a while when the we small but once the got into my bigger 33galon they LOVED it, trust me you WILL see the difference. They become more active and happier. PLEASE it is better for your fish to get a bigger tank and filter. Pretty soon he will get sick b/c of ammonia and not proper filtration. PLUS you can also get worms, a parasite that is hard to see and kills fish quickly, because of extra food at the bottom and different materials found in water. We really are just trying to help and I am sure everyone wants what is best for the fish from our personal experience.

Yes we are all just trying to be helpful. I know some people dont appreciate advice especially if they didnt ask for it, they get upset when it is given. I hope she understands we are only being concerned for the fishies well being and were trying to help out. Nothing against her personally.
Now its up to her to do what she feels best for her circumstances. We cant force anyone to do what they dont want to do or what they cant see as what would really be better for their pet. But hopefully she will consider the good advice given here from people who only have good intentions and are not just trying to be right.
I find that the members here truly care about animals. Thats one big reason why i stay on this forum. I hope she sees it the same way and is ok with members advice here and doesnt view it as an attack on her because that surely is not what it is.

i thought it was kind of cute! I learned something today, I didn't think it was a goldfish but now I know

Edit: I would move him to a ten gallon. I know that those bowls can't house anything besides sea monkeys (and I would even put them in a ten gallon). If you want to get him a friend I would buy a twenty gallon so that he has plenty of room. Just trying to help. How exactly can you tell a fish is happy anyway?
